New formula not as good as old (in my humble opinion)

Updating my review from July 2022... Thorne's previous Berberine formula was single action Berberine HCl (1g), while the new dual action is 50% HCl + 50% phytosome. I appreciate that the phytosome formula is supposed to be more readily absorbable, but I find less benefits in terms of reducing symptoms of underlying dysbiosis. Perhaps that's because I benefit from the HCl to improve digestion?? I'm disappointed because I generally love Thorne products. I'll be looking for an alternative. :-(

Thorne Berberine

It hasn’t worked for me as it has for others. I’m a little disappointed in this product.

It works!

I wanted to delay writing a review until I'd been using Berberine for at least 6 months. I'm 49 years old, menopausal and started to notice extra belly fat despite being generally thin and active. I figured it was due to increased insulin resistance, a common side effect of menopause. I heard about Berberine (as a natural alternative to Metformin) on the David Sinclair podcast and thought I'd give it a go. I started with the recommended dose of 500 mg 3 times a day with meals and it was too much for me. After about a week, I had bad stomach aches and constipation, so I gave it a break for 7 days then resumed at 1 tablet per day. I also take it with Thorne's Resveracel or PolyResveratrol (when they are available) and a vitamin B complex. Berberine is one of the few supplements where I can say that the results are obvious and measurable. Gut and microbiome changes are quite immediate in the form of stool quality changes and a noticeable reduction in bloating. Most impressively, I've seen a significant reduction in subcutaneous fat without changing my diet or exercise habits. (Mind you, I eat pretty healthily and try to move daily.) I have an annual blood test coming up in August and I will be interested to see any affect on my cholesterol numbers. While within recommended limits, my cholesterol was starting to creep up. My only caution is to keep yourself hydrated to avoid constipation. Good luck!
